Car Racing Sport

Auto racing is also known as car racing, automobile racing or motor racing, it is a sport involving racing of automobiles for competition.

Auto racing cars sport started in 1890, they were held in open ways including roads between the cities, and many of these roads were high, sharp and have strong winds which sometimes led the contestant to lose control on the car, many accidents happen and the spectators get injured. The first global organization of auto racing is the France Automobile Club which was found in 1895. After this date the organization oversaw the first car race which was 732 miles (1178 km/h), where the contestants had to go and return between Paris and Bordeaux, the race held 22 contestant, but those who finished the race where 9 contestants only. The winner of this race had a speed average of 15 miles per hour (24 km/h). In the same year in the United States Jack Frank Dioria, leader of auto car industry, bet five contestants in a race from the center of Chicago to the outskirts of Evanston and back. The most famous open car racing was he Vindrbelt cup which started from long island in New York in 1904. This race was held in multiple places after 1910. After that multiple races were held in Europe and the United States in special tracks which were established for this purpose.

In the past the auto racing car sports used to be so simple, the cars used to have weak breaks and the driver used to have difficulty in driving and controlling it. The main way to increase the car power was to increase the size of the engine. Advanced technology came during the First World War (1914-1918) and got the car designers to design cars with more power but decreasing the size of the engine and thus became the fastest cars during 1920’s and 1930’s as there was a competition between car manufacturers to develop race cars. During the Second World War the biggest races were canceled (from 1939-1945). After the war the car racing motors were faster than ever before. In 1950’s they developed cars with rear engines which was a revolution in the motor sport world, putting rear engines helped in improving weight distribution of the car which leads to better traction processes. The car wings appeared first in 1960’s.

Automotive designers are on constant search for new ways to increase the speed of cars, and in the same time some organizations changed their laws for safety requirements. There are many heroes of this sport appeared during the century from various countries. Also women were able to achieve accomplishments in his sport.

In 1977, Janet Guthrie from the United states became the first woman to participate in Indianapolis 500 , race sport, and she ranked ninth place in 1978. Another American contestant called Shirley Moldony won in drag racing three times in Winston champions in 1977, 1980 and 1982.

Motor racing is one of the most exciting sports because it depends on the speed, performance and skills of the drivers. Every year this sport attracts millions of viewers around the world. The most famous race of all is Indianapolis 500 race which gets around 300,000 viewers per year. There are multiple types of races in terms of the length of the track. The motor cars are classified in two main groups, the first group is a normal passenger car which is the changed to racing car, the second is a car designed especially for racing and not to carry passengers.

The car racing sport is considered one of the most dangerous types of sports; many safety actions took place throughout the years to make this sport as safe as possible for both the contestants and the viewers. Strong barriers and fences protect the spectators from the heavy vehicles that spin out of control. As for the contestants, the most important meaning of safety is the race helmet with external solid made of fiberglass of fiber carbon and filled with cushiony foam for shock absorption and lining fire proof. The drivers should wear nonflammable dress from head to toe and in some cases there is special holder for the face. The seat belts in the car are the most important security standard specification needed in each and every involved car in the race. Although each car protects the upper body of each driver, also each car is covered with a solid roof contained of metals arched on top of the drivers head to protect him in case of rollover. The fuel tanks in the racing car are anti-leak type which is either made from plastic or metal. Each fuel tank contain rubber part (looks like a bladder) always contains spongy material of foam to absorb fuel and to reserve leakage in case of accidents. The foam also prevents the fuel from shaking a lot during the race which leads to difficulty in controlling the vehicle. All racing sites are supposed to have some ambulance cars in case of accidents and injuries, in some races ambulance helicopters are in site to deliver the injured person to the nearest hospital.

Summing up all the above, car racing is fun though dangerous, that’s why when taking the decision to be part of the race the person should have to take all the proper safety needs.

Bowling

We are electronics engineering students in the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT); throughout this major we studied different courses, and one of them is Sports, Leisure and Society. In this course we have been asked to do a case study about a sport that we are interested in, so we have chosen to find out more about the bowling sport.
When we started our bowling sport case study first of all we have looked through online websites, and we also looked at some videos related to this sport. Secondly we conducted some interview questions to ask one of the managers at Emirates Bowling Federation Center.

Through our online research we have found that the bowling sport goes about 2000 years back to the Roman Empire and the Ancient Egyptians which they played it a little bit different from now. Nowadays it is enjoyed by around 95 million people worldwide and continues to grow through entertainment media. Bowling refers to a variety of sports and leisure activities in which the player throws a bowling ball down a lane which is usually a flat wooden surface and the target is to knock over 10 pins, that’s also called the norm. Each game is divided to ten frames and each one of them allows the player to knock out the 10 pins twice; the number of pins knocked down in each frame is recorded and a total will be made as each frame finishes. A “strike” is made when the player knocks down all the 10 pins. After all the frames progress the player with the highest score wins.

We read in the Emirates Bowling website about the UAE Bowling Association (UAE BA) that was first founded on the 1st of November 1981. From that the Emirates Bowling Federation (EBF) progressed. On the 5th of January 1982 they gained a membership at the Federation International DesQuillers- Asian Zone (FIQ-Asian Zone), and then to the World Tenpin Bowling Association (FIQ-WTBA), the world governing body for bowling, two years later in 1983. In 1988 the World bowling champion was Mr. Mohammed Khalifa Al Qubaisi, the president of the EBF in the present time. So we thought that it will be a great idea to interview one of the managers of the center.

After that we went to Khalifa International Bowling Center to interview Mr. Ahmed Al Ali manager at the EBF. Mr. Ahmed started his athletic career in football from 1978 to 1987 and then he started playing bowling from 1990 to 2009 because after practicing and learning it he was much more excited about it. In 2010 he joined the Emirates Bowling Federation as a manager. To choose a player he explained, after making a bowling competition they choose the players with the highest records and train them 3 days weekly for 4 hours to get them involved in the team. The team consists of a team manager, coach and the players and the only way for the team to succeed is to share respect between each and every member. He noted that the UAE government motivates the members of the EBF center by giving them all the comfort needed and teaching them how to go through challenges and take risks. As a manager Mr. Ahmed does his best to treat all the members equally and gives them hope and motivation they need. Even though Mr. Ahmed is a manager but still he likes working as a team to reach the target aimed. He added that the EBF’s target is to get the name of the United Arab Emirates raised in all forums.

Finally, we got the chance to play with our classmates and enjoy our time there. Best regards to the Emirates Bowling Federation (EBF) for their best reception.
