Car Racing Sport
Auto
racing is also known as car racing, automobile racing or motor racing, it is a
sport involving racing of automobiles for competition.
Auto
racing cars sport started in 1890, they were held in open ways including roads
between the cities, and many of these roads were high, sharp and have strong
winds which sometimes led the contestant to lose control on the car, many
accidents happen and the spectators get injured. The first global organization
of auto racing is the France Automobile Club which was found in 1895. After this
date the organization oversaw the first car race which was 732 miles (1178
km/h), where the contestants had to go and return between Paris and Bordeaux,
the race held 22 contestant, but those who finished the race where 9
contestants only. The winner of this race had a speed average of 15 miles per
hour (24 km/h). In the same year in the United States Jack Frank Dioria, leader
of auto car industry, bet five contestants in a race from the center of Chicago
to the outskirts of Evanston and back. The most famous open car racing was he
Vindrbelt cup which started from long island in New York in 1904. This race was
held in multiple places after 1910. After that multiple races were held in
Europe and the United States in special tracks which were established for this
purpose.
In
the past the auto racing car sports used to be so simple, the cars used to have
weak breaks and the driver used to have difficulty in driving and controlling it.
The main way to increase the car power was to increase the size of the engine. Advanced
technology came during the First World War (1914-1918) and got the car designers
to design cars with more power but decreasing the size of the engine and thus became
the fastest cars during 1920’s and 1930’s as there was a competition between
car manufacturers to develop race cars. During the Second World War the biggest
races were canceled (from 1939-1945). After the war the car racing motors were
faster than ever before. In 1950’s they developed cars with rear engines which
was a revolution in the motor sport world, putting rear engines helped in
improving weight distribution of the car which leads to better traction
processes. The car wings appeared first in 1960’s.
Automotive designers are on constant search
for new ways to increase the speed of cars, and in the same time some
organizations changed their laws for safety requirements. There are many heroes
of this sport appeared during the century from various countries. Also women
were able to achieve accomplishments in his sport.
In 1977, Janet Guthrie from the United
states became the first woman to participate in Indianapolis 500 , race sport,
and she ranked ninth place in 1978. Another American contestant called Shirley
Moldony won in drag racing three times in Winston champions in 1977, 1980 and
1982.
Motor racing is one of the most exciting
sports because it depends on the speed, performance and skills of the drivers.
Every year this sport attracts millions of viewers around the world. The most
famous race of all is Indianapolis 500 race which gets around 300,000 viewers
per year. There are multiple types of races in terms of the length of the
track. The motor cars are classified in two main groups, the first group is a
normal passenger car which is the changed to racing car, the second is a car
designed especially for racing and not to carry passengers.
The car
racing sport is considered one of the most dangerous types of sports; many
safety actions took place throughout the years to make this sport as safe as
possible for both the contestants and the viewers. Strong barriers and fences
protect the spectators from the heavy vehicles that spin out of control. As for
the contestants, the most important meaning of safety is the race helmet with
external solid made of fiberglass of fiber carbon and filled with cushiony foam
for shock absorption and lining fire proof. The drivers should wear nonflammable
dress from head to toe and in some cases there is special holder for the face. The
seat belts in the car are the most important security standard specification
needed in each and every involved car in the race. Although each car protects
the upper body of each driver, also each car is covered with a solid roof contained
of metals arched on top of the drivers head to protect him in case of rollover.
The fuel tanks in the racing car are anti-leak type which is either made from
plastic or metal. Each fuel tank contain rubber part (looks like a bladder)
always contains spongy material of foam to absorb fuel and to reserve leakage in
case of accidents. The foam also prevents the fuel from shaking a lot during
the race which leads to difficulty in controlling the vehicle. All racing sites
are supposed to have some ambulance cars in case of accidents and injuries, in
some races ambulance helicopters are in site to deliver the injured person to
the nearest hospital.
Summing up all the above, car racing is
fun though dangerous, that’s why when taking the decision to be part of the
race the person should have to take all the proper safety needs.
